Action Pics: We Tell Eskom to Clean Up Its Act!

This morning activists confronted Eskom's reliance on dirty coal by blocking one of the entrances to the power utility's headquarters with five tonnes of coal.

Greenpeace Africa is demanding that Eskom stops the construction of the Kusile coal-fired power station. Eskom should end its addiction to coal and shift massive investments to large-scale renewable energy projects.

Much as this may not be the most constructive way of solving our problems around energy choices, i'm glad to at least see some civil society action - one of our biggest problems in SA is the LACK of activism, so well done Greenpeace for taking a stand.

Yes. If only there were a way to force Eskom to comply with the wishes of (probably) most people! I am sure many consumers would be willing to pay more for green energy.

Hi Peter,

Your comments are pretty standard when it comes to Greenpeace-type actions. I have written a blog about the points you raise: http://bit.ly/aXXIPc

You have managed to take any real life common sense out of any intelligent individuals views on energy production, its methods and the alternatives. You chose to use three dumper trucks to deposit your coal!! How did you get them there; on a lorry no doubt. We all (reasonable thinking type people) would like to help "save the planet" but you are no better than terrorists!!!!
If you want reasonable alternatives give some solid facts; stop bleating ideological rubbish. Just for your info I have never bothered to comment on any "political" items before; but if I ever come across one of your disciples I will not hesitate to treat them in the way they deserve!!
