Greenpeace volunteers and other members of the public light up sky lanterns with the words "Go Renewable" during the Earth Hour celebrations at Malate Church, Manila in the Phillipines.
Earth Hour has been called the largest mass participation environmental event in the world -- last year an estimated 1.6 billion people took part globally. People all over the world are encouraged to turn off their lights for one hour in a symbolic gesture to pledge their commitment to combating climate change.
