Greetings from San Francisco!

The Last Desert Race in Antarctica is getting close, very close, too close for comfort!

With a few days to go before the start of the race I would like to make a special appeal for donations in support of a solar street lighting project in Diepsloot.

Our target is R250 000, and the money raised will enable Greenpeace Africa to roll-out the solar project in Diepsloot. The local community is confronted with many socio-economic challenges, including crime, poverty and unemployment.  The introduction of solar powered street lights, in the absence of electricity, will therefore make a significant contribution to community safety, enhance the quality of life of the local community and demonstrate the potential of renewable energy to transform electricity generation in South Africa.
