I had a great morning running the trails of Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve with Ray Cranston, and Chris and Deborah van Wyk.

I have never been to the reserve before and was pleasantly surprised with the overall experience. Klipriviersberg, located south of Johannesburg, is the largest nature reserve in the Johannesburg Metropolitan area (approximately 680 ha) and is home to a diverse range of wildlife. We saw large herds of springbok, zebra, red hartebeest and black wildebeest.

The reserve offers a wide variety of trails, including some serious climbs. I would definitely recommend a visit to the reserve for any trail runner or hiker in Johannesburg.

Running with Ray and Chris usually involves not staying on the designated trails, but running and climbing up any koppie and hill which look challenging! Chris and Deborah are participating in The Otter African Trail Run next week and today was their final serious training run.

The excursion to Klipriviersberg was followed by a further 11km run in Fairland, and a total distance for the week of close to 90km.

I’m off to Cape Town on Monday for a week of conferences and meetings, including some running and the promotion of my fundraising campaign for Greenpeace Africa. The highlight of the week will be my participation in the Cape Town Marathon next Sunday.

I’m excited about the race in Antarctica and the challenge of raising R250 000 for Greenpeace Africa, and encourage you to support my efforts and the work of Greenpeace Africa!

Please make a donation and encourage others to do the same.
