The last 3 and half years at Greenpeace Africa have been a time of great excitement, growth and satisfaction. I have treasured this time. Today, though, I am writing to let you know that I have resigned from my post as Executive Director at Greenpeace Africa (GPAf) and will be moving on from Greenpeace.

It is naturally difficult to leave you and the wonderful work we've been doing together. What we have accomplished over the last several years in Africa has fundamentally improved the way environmental justice is perceived in this region. As is often the case, it’s our people (staff, volunteers and supporters) who have made these experiences exceptional. Together we have broken through state and corporate barriers, and ignored ego to focus on the work that needs to be done. Thank you!

Not only has it been gratifying and enjoyable, most importantly it has resulted in better responses to an increasingly challenging working environment for the benefit of the planet and people, particularly in Africa. Now it is my goal to build on these rich experiences in any new endeavour.

My last day at Greenpeace will be the 13th of November 2015. From 16th of November until early next year, our current Organisational Director - Frikkie Meintjes, will step in as Acting ED with full authority. The board is strong and the staff at GPAf is outstanding. They are a cohesive team committed and dedicated to the work they do.

Although I am leaving GPAf, I will continue to be a part of the global environmental movement. So, this is not good-bye, but merely see you next time, albeit in a different capacity and possibly in a different organization.

Thank you for the opportunity and pleasure of working with you all.

   See you again soon,

   Micheal O'Brien-Onyeka
