“Not Another Fukushima” is what was written on the placard I was carrying, standing in the blistering cold on Empire road Johannesburg.

'Why?' is a question you might ask, and I would too. The answer dates back to 11 March 2011 when a series of equipment failures, nuclear meltdowns, and releases of radioactive materials at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant in Japan became the largest nuclear disaster since 1986.

This is not something I would want to risk happening again, especially in South Africa. The warmth of drivers giving me and the rest of the team that was standing along Empire Road the thumbs up sign was the best feeling ever.

Knowing that people appreciate the efforts we made by standing and sending a message in a peaceful manner was enough for me to keep standing with a firm grip on my placard with both hands in order to share this massage that Greenpeace wanted us to share.
