Would you like to find out how 78 000 sustainable green jobs can be created in South Africa over the next two decades?
Back in January, we commissioned a report to assess the job creation potential if Greenpeace's Energy [R]evolution scenario - our vision for a low-carbon energy future based on large-scale renewables - was implemented in South Africa.
The findings? Not only would the Energy [R]evolution help to stop climate change, it would also create 78 000 new jobs by 2030 - more than the business-as-usual model that keeps us dependent on coal.
On the 18th August 2010, we will be launching the report - South African Energy Sector Jobs to 2030: How the Energy [R]evolution will create sustainable green jobs – at an event in Johannesburg. The report's author, Jay Rutovitz, will be there to present the key findings and we'd also like to use this opportunity to engage in a broader debate around the issue of “green jobs” – particularly considering the importance of encouraging a just transition to green jobs in South Africa.
We'll be posting the report online so watch this space. In the meantime, you can join the Energy [R]evolution here!
