Nature conservation is a way of showing that we appreciate the environment and all it does for us, the least we can do is preserve the little that we have left while the Earth replenishes itself.

The Virunga national park is home to its fair share of an amazing wildlife, it is also home to the mountain gorillas which are threatened by poaching, war and now by the exploration of oil in the area.

It is really sad to see that big corporations can ignore the lives of the people and the animals in the name of money. Clearing off all our green spaces means that we are destroying our carbon sink and source of oxygen it also mean loss of biodiversity, that at least 20 years from now the coming generations will not be able to go to the national park and see a lot of the life that is preserved on that land. This also takes away the tourist attraction aspect of the land and decreasing the economy of the country.

The movie Virunga takes activism to a whole new level, to see individuals that are so passionate in the work that they do and to see them acknowledge how very special the park is to them inspired me to want to do more, to educate myself more on the issues around the world. It is inspiring to see that despite exceptionally difficult decisions the rangers still stand for what they love and strongly believe in.

At the level that we are in terms of loss of biodiversity we cannot afford to lose any of our nature parks. We cannot continue business as usual something has to change.
