Greenpeace Africa launched its "Countdown to Copenhagen" mobisite this weekend. The site guides visitors through what the world will be like in 2100 if we do not take drastic action to mitigate the impacts of climate change. Among the many visitors present at this event were Dr. KumiNaidoo, the incoming International Executive Director, and young volunteers from within Durban. The mobisite takes you through different scenarios and shows why Copenhagen is critical, and how we can get our leaders to Denmark. It also has a section that invites you to spread the word.

This mobisite will run for the next 20 days as we prepare for Copenhagen. It is part of the highly dramatic Flying Fish Event that is happening in Durban, Eastern Cape! The Fish flying ten metres in the air are meant to act as wake-up call and to demonstrate the impact of global warming and rising sea levels. The "fish" are actually kites shaped like fish which are erected on poles to show how high the sea will rise if climate change remains unchecked. The Flying Fish Event is an effort to raise South Africans' awareness of global warming ahead of Copenhagen.
