Floods in Senegal: Greenpeace calls for national and international solidarity

Press release - August 30, 2012
Our thoughts go out to those that have lost their loved ones in the recent torrential rains that have also forced thousands to be displaced in Senegal.

As an organisation whose mission is to expose environmental and social injustices, as well as to promote peace, we call for national and international solidarity to assist affected populations who have been placed in a precarious situation.

Greenpeace urges policy makers to act responsibly and decisively in the face of increasing threats such as drastic changes in rainfall patterns and flooding that has been attributed to climate change.

We also call on our governments to bolster efforts to stop the destruction of ecosystems and implement sustainable development and planning policies to prevent such disasters from affecting the many vulnerable people across Africa.
