The Marikana protests - Greenpeace condolence message

Press release - August 22, 2012
Our thoughts go out to the families and friends of those that lost their lives in the recent protests at the Marikana Platinum Mine.

We decry the level of violence that was employed during these protests and urge the South African government to embrace the spirit of dialogue, equality, labour rights and reconciliation as was advocated for by President Nelson Mandela, his fellow fighters and the countless South Africans that lost their lives in the struggle for freedom.
