Greenpeace Africa is an environmental campaigning organisation with offices in Southern, West, East and Central Africa. The organisation is currently seeking to employ a Project Manager to join the Digital Unit within the Engagement team and will be based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The role of the Digital Project Manager is to plan, execute, and finalize projects within the defined scope, quality, time and budget. The project manager oversees all aspects of a project and is responsible for the coordination and completion of several project at the same time. 

Job specification:

  • Together with the Product Owner define project goals, scope, deliverables, constraints, acceptance criteria and project structure. 
  • Ensure stakeholder understand and accept the appropriate processes and that the reporting structures are in place.
  • Manage all stakeholders’ expectations and delegate responsibilities to appropriate team members. 
  • Ensure a successful completion in terms of agreed time, costs & quality. 
  • Minimize risk and exposure. Identify, log, analyze and manage potential, actual issues and risks. 
  • Review how issues and risks might impact on scope, schedule, quality and cost; 
  • Ensure that completed projects are delivered with comprehensive documentation and support ensuring that these can be effectively sustained within the organization.
  • Have knowledge of the information technology in general in order to understand and question requests coming from specialists and technical staff, evaluate what is reasonable or possible.
  • Understand and work according to relevant (GPI) Project methodologies, processes and standards and ensure that all project team members understand and follow these methodologies. 
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and success of the Project Management Office and to your own development as a professional
  • Provide Project team with direction and vision, including motivating people to perform, listening to people, providing feedback, recognising strengths and providing challenges.

Core job competencies

  • Proven work experience as a Digital project manager / Scrum Master
  • Proven track record (custom) CMS / Website implementation including content migration
  • Solid Understanding of basic Data Analytics processes
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of database design and management
  • Have knowledge of the IT technology in general in order to understand and question requests coming from specialists and technical staff, evaluate what is reasonable or possible.

Preferred Qualification(s)

  • B.Sc. University degree

Preferred Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience 
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Track record of delivering successful projects as a project manager, preferably in an international environment.
  • Sufficient understanding of IT systems, software development and project management to deliver projects.
  • Experience of working in an international and culturally diverse environment.

Other requirements

  • Willingness to travel internationally and within the region
