Cyber activists are instrumental in getting Greenpeace information out to South Africans and the world in quick and creative ways through online networking and campaigning. We are often the first to be called on to take action, and our objective is to engage as many people as possible!
Potential work for Cyberactivists can be extensive. From signing and circulating online petitions, responding to online news, inciting meaningful online conversations about the issues and your concerns to circulating important Greenpeace videos, reports, images, and stories.
WHERE TO START?
No matter where you are, you can start immediately. As a Cyberactivist, you can help us grow our network of people willing to take action for the environment. Tweet, blog, use twibbons, and feature our content on Facebook. Have you joined us? Take a look below at our numerous Facebook groups etc. Engage people online. Use these tools as a way to start online discussions. Send action emails to your friends. Talk about our campaigns and victories in your own language, and make sure your friends know how you're making a difference. Aim to generate passion, inspire action, evoke emotions, and empower people to join the movement. It is more important than ever to be clear in our messages, our demands and our solutions in order to bring about change!

There are also a few local Facebook Groups in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth and also in Kenya and Senegal.
Next very important step is to sign up on Greenwire. There you will find an actual cyberactivist group where we offer trainings, and make sure you're the first to know when it's time to take action.
Online etiquette is something we are learning everyday, and not everyone plays by the same rules. As part of the Greenpeace Cyberactivist network, all we ask is that you follow three simple ground rules:
1] BE RESPECTLFUL! Please use non-violent and non-discriminatory language in your interactions. It’s one of our core values to use non-violent confrontation to raise the level and quality of public debate.
2] STAY POSITIVE! “Successful communication is about being positive! Martin Luther King did not stand up and say, “I have a nightmare”. He said, “I have a dream!”

3] STAY CONNECTED! Don’t hesitate to get in touch with our Regional Volunteer Organizers with any questions or concerns you may have about our asks, our campaigns, online etiquette, or about cyberactivism in general! Cyberactivism can be thankless and time-consuming work. Remember you are not alone in this fight!
