Sisiutl Ceremony on Greenpeace’s Esperanza Ship

April 28th, 2015 (Vancouver): The Greenpeace Esperanza and Captain Pep Barbal receive a special traditional welcome by Chief Ian Campbell and the Squamish Nation for entering their territorial waters and lands. Kwakwaka'wakw cultural leader and artist Beau Dick presents Captain Barbal with the new Sisiutl Crest in the form of a flag which will fly on the ship and across the Greenpeace fleet. This Crest is the renewed version of the original symbol that was shared after a special ceremony with Bob Hunter by the Kwakwaka'wakw, shortly after the first Greenpeace mission to protest nuclear testing in 1971.
