Ready for Action! is Greenpeace Canada’s newest initiative to share over 40 years of campaigning knowledge and action experience with anyone who wants to organize for change.

Whether you are a seasoned organizer or have a dream of becoming an activist, we are offering a wide range of trainings and skillshares across the country to help you climb to the next level of your political and social engagement.

While we are offering a variety of workshops, one of our focuses will be on Non-Violent Direct Action, a powerful tool to apply pressure on any corporation or political body.

  • This training provides an interactive introduction to Non-violent Direct Action (NVDA), a powerful tool to apply pressure to industry and government and to bring about change. We will look at the history of NVDA and its present-day use in social movements, explore various tactics, and go over legal, security, and media strategies, everything you’ll need to be ready to take action!

  • Your one stop guide to doing media before, during, and after an action. The workshop will cover how to write press releases, make press calls, practice interviews, develop key messages and other necessary media skills. If think you ever might need to step in-front of the camera or just want to tighten your groups messaging this workshop is for you!

  • This workshop will delve into the tricks and tips for being a good spokesperson. Participants will work on developing key messages, practicing message discipline and staying on point during radio interviews and video appearances and learnother tricks of the trade to help make you a more effective spokesperson.

  • In the digital age, political and social changes are propagated and discussed on social networks. The success of public initiatives involves a digital dimension and therefore requires learning new skills. This workshop aims to share knowledge on the development of online strategies. From the construction of messages, to the choice of networks and audiences, we will provide an overview of best practices developed by Greenpeace. The workshop will also create the space for sharing knowledge among participants about successful practices and tools in relation to the subject, region, and different audiences of campaigns.

  • This training is an intensive weekend-long program designed to give participants a good overview of the activist toolbox. Participants will participate in skill-shares as well as taking part in practical exercices. Topics for the 3-day camp include: how do we build shared strategies, how to prepare for non-violent direct actions, anti-oppression, and media and messaging among many others. At the end of the weekend participants will be involved in a full scale action simulation! The weekend will allow us to get to know each other better, share ideas, and gain all the skills you need to take action!

  • This training is an intensive weekend-long program to immerse you in all things Greenpeace action. The program includes an introduction to Greenpeace and workshops on non-violent direct action, de-escalation and conflict management, anti-oppression, legal rights and consequences, media and messaging, as well as a direct action simulation and much, much more!
    *Note: This training is a prerequisite to join other Greenpeace trainings like climb training, boat driving, and scouting.

We will share tools to prepare a personal and organisational risk assessment and cover some aspects of site and information security analysis. We will also look at information security and what software and devices to use to keep things safe and secure.
