Redlist species sold

Sells 8 of the 15 Redlist species. Farmed Atlantic salmon, Atlantic cod, yellowfin tuna, Greenland halibut, Atlantic sea scallops, tropical shrimp and prawns, and haddock.

Sustainable seafood policies and labeling

The Co-op has recently committed to the development of a sustainable seafood policy in partnership with SeaChoice but has not publically released this policy or begun implementation.

The chain does not provide adequate information on seafood products about where and how the species was caught or farmed.

Kudos

  • Partnered with SeaChoice and has committed to increase the range of sustainable seafood available in stores and educate staff and customers/members about seafood sustainability.

Criticism

  • Sells Redlist species originating from overfished stocks and destructive fishing and farming methods.
  • Has not responded to multiple inquiries from Greenpeace about its seafood policies and practices.
  • Does not provide adequate information on seafood product labels.
