EFSA: Failing Consumers and the Environment

Publication - April 1, 2004
A Greenpeace critique on the workings of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

Author: Greenpeace

Executive summary: The GMO panel of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) was set up to contribute to an improved risk assessment of genetically engineered (GE) crops in the EU. However, analysis of the two assessments made so far by the EFSA (maize NK603 and oilseed rape GT73) shows that the EFSA has not contributed to a higher level of consumer and environmental protection from GE crops and foodstuffs.
