An investigation in PVC plastic products

Author: Greenpeace Research Laboratories

Executive summary: In this study, a variety of common vinyl chloride (PVC or vinyl) consumer products, with uses from childcare to home furnishing, were tested for phthalate plasticisers and heavy metal stabilisers including organotins. Earlier investigations detected the presence of significant levels of phthalates and heavy metals (cadmium and lead) in toys and other PVC products manufactured for children. Toys, however, represent only a small part of the PVC market.
