Meant to bring together volunteers, supporters and employees of Greenpeace, the Mumbai Hangout organised by Sakshi, our intern and hosted by her and Pranay, our Volunteer Leader, was held on the 7th of March. It was the first of its kind and was attended by nearly 20 people.

They (Sakshi and Pranay) started with a rule that no two people who know each other sit side by side which was followed by a simple icebreaker that required physical movement (this helped improve the atmosphere which was a little tense).

Then we broke up into groups of three and completed a simple assignment. We were given wire and colors and we had to make glasses reflecting “Greenpeace through our eyes.” This assignment drew many chuckles as we worked together and struggled to complete the task within the time limit.

After finishing this assignment, we had a snack break during which we ate some delicious sandwiches and sipped on a refreshing mango-flavoured drink. Finally after the break, Pranay, Rizwan and Venkatesh shared inspiring stories of their time as a volunteer leader, activist and an employee respectively. And after a time consuming selfie session we parted ways and sealed the amazing event.

It was very clear towards the end of the meet that this was an incredibly beneficial operation. The aim was for each group of people (volunteers, supporters and employees) to address and understand the issues faced by each other, find solutions and promote ‘mixing’ within each other.
