Purpose of role
To provide overall strategic leadership and management on the specific campaign issue/theme /basket and deliver campaign goals and objectives within the committed timeframe.
To lead and manage the FFL Team in accomplishing the design of sustainable and ecological agriculture campaign strategy, policy positions, campaign methods, stakeholder relationships.
To participate and contribute in organisational processes.
Main Duties
- Develop overarching frameworks, 3-year strategy objectives, priorities and annual operational plans to deliver campaign goals and objectives.
- Build and nurture a team of competent, high-performing and effective campaigners - including, being responsible for hiring, coaching and performance development of team members. Provide space for innovation creativity and accountability.
- Contribute and collaborate effectively with other campaigns and programme functions to ensure that Greenpeace India campaigns are effectively integrated and synergised.
- Keep an overview of current and changing external context and players relevant to the campaign
- Ensure excellent working relationship with relevant networks, alliances, and coalitions. At all levels
- Ensure close coordination and collaboration with GPI and relevant NROs for learning, and joint global campaigning
- Actively participate and contribute as a member of the Programme Council in relevant debate, learning, decision making for effective development, implementation, monitoring of campaigns and engagement plans.
- Oversee and guide new lines of research, investigation and innovation as required.
- Develop and manage the campaign budget and other resources efficiently and effectively
- Prepare internal reports on the campaign. Write or oversee writing of external and internal reports, fact sheets, briefings etc.
- Ensure Inter-departmental (campaigns, functions) interface and collaborations- strategizing and negotiating for support to further the campaign goals and broader organisational goals and objectives.
- Represent the campaign and network with the media, political stakeholder, business stakeholders, civil society members and others.
- Undertake direct campaign activity and actions when necessary.
- Participate and contribute to the development and achievement of wider organisational goals, strategies, processes, learning, integrity, innovations and reputation.
Decision making Role
- Prioritisation of strategy to meet campaign goals.
- Line management responsibility of team members and occasional supervision of interns/volunteers. Performance review of reportees.
- Managing larger teams for issue specific projects.
- Oversee selection and coordination of partners, coalitions and support activities in line with the overall strategy, organisational vision and budget.
- Budget allocation within campaign strands/plans. Budget holder for the Campaign Budget.
- Ensure that interns, volunteers and other Greenpeace staff, that are integral to successful campaigning, share the vision and strategic direction of the FFL Campaign.
Knowledge, experience and competencies
Essential:
- At least 7+ years track record of relevant (theme/issue + campaigning) work and experience as team manager or team leader or strategic campaigner
- Managerial experience preferred. 3 years in a leadership role and proven people skills.
- Excellent understanding and experience working on issues related to safe food, soil health, sustainable agriculture, ecological farming, farmer’s livelihood issues, agrarian crisis, etc. at both policy as well as practical level.
- Experience in working with coalitions, activists, movements, and other stakeholders at different levels from local to national.
- Excellent understanding of the environmental issues and associated debate, institutions and activism in India and beyond.
- Track record of performance in contextual and campaign analysis, strategy development, tactics formulations and coalition building.
- Strategic thinking skills and ability to apply campaigning tools and help teams to use them.
- Ability to operate in fast changing and potentially challenging circumstances with the ability to quickly and effectively learn, adapt, innovate
- Excellent inter-personal, representational, negotiation, solution oriented and crisis management skills.
- Fluency in English and at least one Indian language essential
Work Travel:
The manager will have to travel for implementation of plans, if required. She/he will have to travel both inside and outside the country to represent the campaign.
