Greenpeace radiation experts Stan Vincent (right) and Jan Vande Putte (left) take radiation measurements in Mayapuri scrap market in Delhi. They were part of a team surveying this area where exposure to radioactive material (Cobalt-60) in the previous month claimed one life and caused injuries to many more. The Cobalt-60 originated from a Gamma Irradiator which the Delhi University auctioned to a scrap dealer. the Greenpeace team identified hotspots with dangerous levels of radiation, including two places which had levels higher than 5000 times normal background after the authorities had declared it safe.
