India needs to have a diversified generation and distribution system

Press release - July 31, 2012
New Delhi, July 31, 2012: The recent blackout due to the failure of the grid, crippling the lives of millions, is an eye opener that the present energy infrastructure in India needs to be diversified, both at the generation and the distribution level.

“India needs to revisit its unsustainable energy policy and build a smarter grid network which is flexible and can infuse energy from diverse sources of energy. In order to avoid the complete blackout in future, the grid should be able to evacuate the power from smaller energy generating systems (such as decentralised renewable energy (DRE), roof top solar etc).” said Abhishek Pratap, Sr Campaigner, Greenpeace India.
