We find it works best if you are polite, but firm. Try to stay on the line for a couple of minutes. A good way to extend the time is to ask questions that do not have yes or no answers. How do you feel about…? Can you explain…? Can you tell me..?

If you would like help with what to say, try this:

"Hello I am phoning about Shell’s partnership with Gazprom and how Shell's partnership with Gazprom relates to peaceful activists and journalists currently being held in Russian jails, the Arctic 30.

I would like to make a formal request of Shell to re-consider any deals with Gazprom and ask that you make a formal denouncement of the detainment of the Arctic 30."

Some follow up material for you to use:

"Drilling in the Arctic is a threat to the world, not the actions of peaceful activists. Oil companies should not be drilling for oil where a spill cannot be cleaned up. It’s oil that got us into this climate change mess in the first place – that’s why the ice is melting. Please call for the release of the Arctic 30.
