Age: 60

Peter grew up on the water in South Norwalk, Connecticut, United States.

He is married and a father to two teenage daughters.

Peter started sailing for the environment in 1973 on the Clearwater, the boat started by folksinger Pete Seeger. Peter already sailed as a hobby, but his experience on the Clearwater helped him fall in love with sailing for a purpose.

Peter has been involved in Greenpeace for over 30 years. When the Rainbow Warrior came the USA for the first time, he volunteered immediately. Peter has skippered Greenpeace ships since 1981 and was the captain on the first Rainbow Warrior that was bombed in New Zealand by the French secret service in 1985.

Peter believes that non-violent direct action is a wonderful educational tool to explain your beliefs and make people aware of what is going on in the world.

Parenthood, in Peter’s words,

“Is about the only thing that could keep me from going to sea.”
