Russian Coastguard Threatens Arctic Sunrise With Force

The Russian Coast Guard boarded the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise after it entered the Kara sea to protest Arctic oil drilling. After a 2 hour long meeting the Russian authorities have left the ship but with a warning that severe action will be taken. The inspection follows a dramatic week in which the ship was refused permits to enter the sea but defied Russian authorities and entered anyway.

On the 24th August, the Arctic Sunrise entered the Northern Sea Route (NSR) off Russia's coastline to protest against Arctic oil drilling, in defiance of Russian authorities who this week refused the ship permission to enter the area.
