Greenpeace International today sent the EU an open letter from Dr Moreno-Fierros that is addressed to all authorities worldwide regulating GE crops and food. Dr Moreno is the lead author of what may be the only peer-reviewed paper examining the health risks of the Cry1Ac protein. She urges against the use of such proteins in food and states: “We are especially concerned with the use of the Cry1Ac protein in GE Bt rice (China). We therefore recommend that special caution should be taken to avoid releasing Cry-containing plants for human food.”
