Green drinks III and Earth Hour in Dunedin

Dunedin has been a treat. From the shags hanging about on the main deck, to the record number of people who attended the open days, to the ever-changing weather, it's been a full on and fantastic two days.

As well as two open boats, we held our third Green Drinks event on the ship last night. In Auckland and Lyttelton we were blessed with textbook late-summer evenings. Not so in Dunedin. The thunder rolled and the lightening cracked and the rain came tumbling down. The saving grace was a mighty rainbow, which draped itself over the harbour and over the ship; its pot of gold just metres away.

This Green Drinks was a little different to the previous two, and not just because we had live musicians playing guitar and double bass on the bridge deck and singing with voices like honey. We also marked Earth Hour between 8 and 9pm (see www.earthhour.org.nz/).

Earth Hour is where cities right around the world switch lights out and appliances off to raise awareness of climate change. The first Earth Hour was held last year in Sydney as an initiative of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and The Sydney Morning Herald. A total of 24 cities around the world were officially involved in last night's switch off, although people from 370 different towns and cities had registered to be a part of the event. To mark the occasion, we turned all the deck lights out on the Warrior and used solar lights instead. It was another very successful event, with a great turn out of really interesting people and local organic beer to beat the cold.
