Greenpeace Romania is hiring an experienced Press & Communications Officer to join Greenpeace Romania’s Forest and Biodiversity team.

About the job

The Media Officer works in close relationship with the campaigner, the volunteer coordinator(s), the digital campaigner, the PR Manager and the Office Director to develop and implement the best approach to communicate to the public and present/future supporters about Greenpeace’s forest & biodiversity campaign and activities.

The Press & Communications Officer will:

  • Work closely with the whole forest campaign team in order to plan, develop and implement forest & biodiversity campaign strategies;

  • Develop and implement communication strategies, in close cooperation with the campaigner and the digital campaigner, targeting national audiences to generate stories in mainstream and online media on Greenpeace Romania’s Forest Campaign work;

  • Write, organize, edit and distribute communication content (press releases, press quotes, texts, videos, photos, stories);

  • Prepare media and communications work for public activities: hire photographers, videographers etc.

  • Provide media briefings to participants of public activities, coordinate media and communications work on the ground in collaboration with the back office etc;

  • Find, develop and tell the stories to mobilize people around causes of our projects;

  • Keep the website updated and communicate proactively on social media channels;

  • Maintain (and improve) our contact with journalists and other relevant media players, with particular focus on online media;

  • Uphold relationships with key media influencers, including news media and bloggers. Attend meetings and conferences where networking opportunities exist and maximize these for the benefit of the organization;

  • Curate archive of our visual materials and communication outputs;

  • Update the media database with photos and videos from the Romanian office activities;

  • Monitor and analyze media content trends;

  • Ensure that relevant media content is monitored and reported back in a timely manner to relevant colleagues;

  • Act as a credible public spokesperson for Greenpeace, e.g., giving media interviews or speaking on panels;

  • Manage the communication budget.

 

Required qualities and skills:

●    University degree or comparable communications experience;

●   At least 2-3 years experience working in a media outlet, PR firm, or working as a content creator with demonstrated ability to secure earned media;

●    Excellent speaking, writing and networking skills;

●   Experience pitching reporters, editors, and producers on a variety of types of stories;

●   Deep familiarity with Internet culture along with active participation on at least three different social media platforms;

●   Understanding of media monitoring and social media analytics tools and monitoring platforms;

●    Knowledge of environmental issues in general;

●    Advanced interpersonal and communication skills;

●    Extrovert personality;

●    Doer and positive attitude, willingness to proactively contribute to Greenpeace’s cause;

●    Proficient in spoken and written English;

●    Willingness to travel;

●    Comfortable with public-speaking as well as storytelling skills.
