Amazon win: huge soya port closes

The Brazilian Environmental Agency has closed a huge soya port in the Amazon rainforest until a proper environmental impact assessment is undertaken. This is a huge win for the Amazon and its people because the port, owned by US grain trading giant Cargill, is responsible for shipping massive quantities of soya arriving from deforested areas of the region’s rainforest.

Greenpeace shuts down New Zealand coal plant

To be or not to be? Well, the answer for New Zealand's Marsden B coal plant is not to be. The struggle against Marsden B has seen a nine day occupation, high court challenges, protest marches, record numbers of public submissions, public meetings, the emergence of NGOs, bumper stickers, a demarcation and a pirate radio station.
