Do you want to protect our environment and get paid for it? Become a Frontliner - a Greenpeace fundraiser. Part-time and fulltime positions are available.

Our "Frontliners" spread the word about Greenpeace in shopping streets and door-to-door. They talk to potential supporters about our campaigns and encourage them to support us with regular monthly financial contributions, by direct debit or credit card.

For an interview call Ashley Fitzgerald on (02) 9263 0367.

Our Frontliners are vital because they cheerfully show people how they can support Greenpeace's important environmental work. This is your chance to contribute to saving our planet - while getting paid!

We urgently need Frontliners in: Sydney, Melbourne.

We are also looking for Frontliners in: Perth, Darwin, Brisbane, Northern NSW and Newcastle.

More about the job

Skills required and hiring criteria

We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. You need to be:
  • over 18
  • outgoing and positive
  • able to easily build rapport with a diverse range of people
  • confident in a sales interaction
  • an excellent communicator and have the enthusiasm and motivation to promote Greenpeace.
  • passionate about the environment
  • able to reach fundraising targets and handle knockbacks or objections.

Ideally, you will have a great sense of humour, direct selling experience and some environmental knowledge.

Frontliners talk about their job:

"Frontlining started for me as a good summer job when i was a student in Luxembourg. Now frontlining brought me to work in New Zealand, USA and Australia. How great to be able to travel the world working for Greenpeace."
Christopher Burman

"Working for Greenpeace has really opened up my mind. It feels so good to work for an organisation that really does something for our future. I feel like I am really contributing to a better world for everyone by doing my bit at Greenpeace."
Dave Lee

Training and support

All new Frontliners receive 1.5 days training to learn about Greenpeace, what we campaign on and why, and info about our history and successes. Training includes talking scripts and role plays, along with plenty of useful information and fact sheets to use on the job. New fundraisers are assigned one of our "star" Frontliners as a guardian. They help out with any problems you come across while you're still learning.

We also have ongoing training with team leaders and on-the-street trainers and a meeting every Friday to discuss more details and, occasionally, listen to campaigner talks.

Hours (street) and pay

Our Frontliners operate Monday to Friday, 10am – 4:30pm, with half an hour for lunch. Part-time and fulltime hours are available.

We pay a base of $14 per hour until Frontliners reach specific targets (usually in the first couple of weeks). On top of this hourly rate we operate a bonus scheme which could increase your hourly rate to $22 an hour (on-target earnings). We operate a recognition and reward scheme, which rewards those who have achieved beyond the call of duty, showed outstanding commitment or simply tried really hard. We also offer the opportunity to go on travel trips - one to two weeks away on the road with paid expenses. It's a great opportunity to see more of Australia and get paid for it!

What makes it great

Frontlining is a great job because you get to:

  • improve your confidence
  • develop your communication skills
  • meet a lot of really great people
  • make loads of new friends and have fun
  • recruit new supporters for Greenpeace
  • gain fundraising experience
  • do something worthwhile
  • feel a sense of empowerment.

As with most jobs, there are some challenges. You may find that:

  • you have to learn how to deal with rejection from potential supporters
  • some people that you approach can be rude
  • the weather may be cold or hot and occasionally wet
  • the job is a challenge. You have to be self-motivated, focused and energetic!

Future opportunities and progression

We regularly promote Frontliners to become team leaders. This role has extra responsibilities and so extra hours are involved. Face-to-face fundraising provides the skills for success. Success at work, success in exams, success in negotiations - quite simply, it's a great way to pick up important life skills.

More Frontliners talk about their job:

"Working for Greenpeace is the best job I have ever had. Communicating with all types of people about a cause I'm passionate about, having fun in the sun while empowering others to become active when it comes to the environment and sustainability. Who could ask for more? And there are so many avenues and travel opportunities open within Greenpeace that one can never become bored! Juggle on!"
Josh Nettheim

"It's urgent at the moment to be a part of something but not just anything will do. We all have to get together and be part of something that is making a difference. But how do we make a difference when were stuck in global consumerism? We stand on the street and get out there and talk to people and put a face to the real issues. And that is why I work for Greenpeace."
Daniel McCusker
