Based in our Sydney office, Sarah Roberts focuses her efforts on encouraging people to leave a bequest to Greenpeace in their will. ‘The future depends on what we do in the present. Working with supporters who want to protect the planet for future generations is a real priviledge,’ says Sarah.
Sarah is also a volunteer climber for Greenpeace actions, an exciting role which has taken her all over Australia. "Standing up for what you believe in by taking non violent direct action is so important and can be such a catalyst for change," she says.
The best part, Sarah says, is winning. "It's amazing to be part of the team when we've just had a victory, like the South Australian government agreeing to slash the state's greenhouse pollution by 60 per cent by 2050.”
Sarah's favourite Greenpeace moment was climbing up to the world's tallest tree sit in Tasmania's Styx Valley in early 2004, where activists lived on the 65-metre-high platform of the 'Global Rescue Station'. "It was brilliant," says Sarah. "But abseiling back down was definitely one of my hairiest moments ever!"
Looking to the future, Sarah would love to work for Greenpeace in South America or Spain, learning another language at the same time. Oh yes, and she'd also like to reach the other Australians who are not yet Greenpeace supporters.
