Tiy is truly a man of the Pacific. Born in New Zealand, he has lived in Fiji, Hawaii, Australia, Thailand, China and East Timor. Now based in Greenpeace's Suva office in Fiji, Tiy works as a communications officer on the Oceans campaign.
Tiy Chung has long followed the organisation's work. "I was always into the environment and was fascinated by
Greenpeace as I was growing up," says Tiy. "Their anti-nuclear protests
in the Pacific captured my imagination.
"When the Rainbow Warrior was bombed in '85, I thought 'wow, these guys are onto something if they get a response like this.'"

"Pacific Island countries are tiny and
their survival is dependent on limited natural resources," says Tiy.
"If they don't use the environment sustainably there's not only no
economy, there's also nothing to eat and in some cases no where to
live."
"A big part of my job is getting Pacific environmental issues into the public eye via different media.
"Greenpeace
has done so much work in Pacific; on fisheries, climate, nuclear
shipments, toxins, as well as forestry in Papua New Guinea. I have to
make sure everyone knows we're doing a good job and that people know
the issues."
