A passion for the environment and firm belief in peace spurred gentle-mannered Brett Drayton to become a Greenpeace supporter and volunteer. Today, he is a seasoned activist who leads the Greenpeace Sydney local group.

Brett didn’t know much about activism when he first volunteered with Greenpeace. “None of my friends were activists and I didn’t know much about it,” he says. Since joining the Sydney local group he has met with politicians, run letter-writing stalls, made props, painted banners and raised awareness about important issues. A part of his role as local groups coordinator involves organising volunteers and, he says shyly, “hopefully inspiring them too.”

Brett now counts being involved in shutting down a Newcastle coal loader a highlight of his time with Greenpeace. This is important to Brett because he wants Australia to switch from coal to clean energy  in order to address climate change.

After volunteering with Greenpeace and leaving his role as a business analyst Brett took a full-time position in the Greenpeace Sydney office. He keeps the Greenpeace Australia Pacific database in top shape so that we can stay in touch with on-line activists and supporters.

Brett would like to see more Australians of all ages and backgrounds getting involved and taking action on issues that they care about.

Brett makes the most of his spare time and the outdoors by cycling, bush walking and camping.
