A faithful financial contributor to Greenpeace for years, Cassie heard about Greenpeace's local group in Brisbane in 2000 and hasn't looked back since. She quickly became the Local Group Coordinator.
Cassie
works hard to keep her group members motivated and aware of issues,
while making sure they get jobs to match their interests and skills.
The rewards are great - she loves seeing group members discover their
potential, or brainstorm to find novel ways to get their message out to
the public.
"I also find it exciting when one of our activities
has the desired impact - for instance, when we get into the media," she
says.
In her other life, Cassie works with people who have
disabilities. "I feel humbled and inspired by these people in our
community," says Cassie. "Through my work with Greenpeace I also feel
as though I'm meeting my obligation to contribute to society and the
planet, so that it is a more harmonious and healthy place."
An
inspiration to all of us, Cassie knows you don't always have to be
'dyed-in-the-wool' environmentalist to make important changes. "People
in the green movement have subtly and not-so-subtly inspired me to make
changes in my life, so that now I'm more at peace within my
environment," she says.
