Our generous financial supporters are our lifeblood. Their regular donations allow us to continue forcing environmental change for a green and peaceful future.

Our pledge to our valued supporters forms the Greenpeace Australia Pacific Supporter Relationships Charter.

Greenpeace Australia Pacific Supporter Relationships Charter

Greenpeace is the world’s largest independent non-profit environmental campaign organisation. We use non-violent creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems and to force solutions that are essential to ensure a just, peaceful, sustainable environment for future generations.

What your support means to us

Your support enables Greenpeace to remain independent of corporate or government funding to retain a strong, uncompromising, independent voice on behalf of our planet. At Greenpeace, we believe that sometimes you have to step outside traditional ways of doing things to create change.

All our income comes from people like you who are prepared to stand up for what you believe. Our fierce independence allows us to confront polluters and governments who disregard the health of our planet, without fear of financial reprisals.

Greenpeace exists because this fragile earth deserves a voice. It needs solutions. It needs change. It needs actions.

In just over 30 years Greenpeace has grown from a few people to a global network of concerned citizens, with offices in 41 countries. We’re working in diverse countries like China, India, the US, Russia and, later this year, we’re setting up a new office in Africa.

And we believe that the struggle to preserve the future of our planet is not about us. It's about you. Greenpeace speaks for 2.8 million supporters worldwide and encourages many millions more than that to take action every day.

Supporter relationships

Our Supporter Relationships department
Our experienced team of devoted individuals is dedicated to providing our valued supporters the highest level of supporter care. We are a group of individuals who passionately believe in Greenpeace’s core values and spend a great deal of time communicating to our supporter base and the public about our campaigns.

What is our role?
We communicate with roughly 100,000 active supporters in the Australia and Pacific region. Through this communication we are able to grasp a comprehensive understanding of what is important to our supporters. We handle all supporter related inquiries via telephone, email and mail and focus on building and maintaining relationships with our supporters as well as members of the public who may contact us.

The Supporter Relationships team assists our supporters professionally and efficiently with any queries they may have. Our team communicates with passion, inspiring supporters and the public about Greenpeace’s aim to create a new, positive vision for our future.

We have a responsibility to you as a supporter of Greenpeace. This Supporter Charter acts as a reference to these responsibilities.

We will keep private the information that has been provided to us by our supporters and comply with the Greenpeace Australia Pacific Privacy policy.

Greenpeace will treat your personal information in confidence and securely maintain your details.

Greenpeace uses the information to facilitate your financial support, such as processing your donations and providing receipts, to communicate with you on a regular basis, ask for your participation in our campaigns and provide you with updates on our campaigns and how your gifts are helping.

Occasionally Greenpeace allows other organisations to contact you with information that may be of interest to you. These organisations usually allow us to do the same and this way we can reach more people with vital information about our own campaigns. We will always offer you an opportunity to opt-out of receiving communications from Greenpeace, in which case we will ensure your details are excluded from all internal marketing lists and future campaigns.

Spend donated money responsibly

We will use the money entrusted to us by our supporters responsibly and to the best effect for our environmental campaigning. Money donated to Greenpeace is directed to the Greenpeace Trust Fund and around 25% of your support goes to an international fund so we can direct resources where it’s most needed. Regular ongoing donations are important as they help us to plan ahead as well as give us the flexibility to use the money quickly and where it counts.

Operating as a company, Greenpeace Australia Pacific follows high standards of accountability and transparency. We want to ensure our generous donors know how their contributions are spent, that they are spent wisely, and on worthwhile campaigns. Each year we produce an annual report containing full details of our income and expenditure. Supporters can request a copy of this report at any time by contacting us on 1800 815 151.

Keep administration costs to a minimum

We understand that our financial supporters would ideally wish to allocate 100% of their donations towards our inspiring campaigns. In order for these campaigns to continue with such momentum, for our organisation to run effectively, and for Greenpeace to persevere in our challenge of holding corporations, businesses, and governments accountable for harmful actions toward our planet, administration costs are impossible to avoid.

Greenpeace is continually working to lower its administration costs and achieve a maximum result out of the funds we allocate to our campaigns.

Provide accurate and honest information

We continue to inspire our supporters with up-to-date campaign information from both Australia and our global offices. This information will be current and accurate at the time of delivery. Our Supporter Relationships team will also provide precise information regarding means for our supporters to engage further with Greenpeace activities, including:

  • Joining local groups
  • Become a cyber-activist
  • Involvement in community fundraising
  • Volunteer work for Greenpeace

Communicate with you in a manner that suits you

We are also sensitive to our supporter’s individual needs. As a part of your exciting supporter journey, we aspire to communicate with you in the medium best suited to you. If you would like to alter the means by which communication exists between Greenpeace and yourself, please let our Supporter Relationships team know by contacting us on freecall 1800 815 151 or emailing support@au.greenpeace.org

Supporter acknowledgement

We believe is it important to acknowledge all of our supporters for all donations made to our organisation. We provide tax receipts for any donation on or above $2.00 together with an update on how your generous donation will be used.

If you wish to cancel or alter your debit agreement in writing, we require 14 days notice as set out in Greenpeace’s Direct Debit Service Agreement.

Processing and acknowledgment of donations will be completed within 7 days of receiving your donation. This is subject to change during peak appeal periods in which case, the processing will occur as promptly as our small team can manage with the resources at hand.

General enquiry and financial-related requests via email will be actioned and responded to within 7 days. Prompt and accurate actioning of these emails are an essential ingredient of our top-level customer service.
