Board candidates

Greenpeace Australia Pacific Limited is committed to excellence in governance and therefore seeks suitability qualified individuals who can contribute to the overall success of the organisation.

Greenpeace Australia Pacific encourages people from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and Pacific Island peoples, to apply.

All candidates wishing to be considered as part of this process will be required to complete and submit the following documentation by the 10th of April, 2017:

  • Board Applicant Disclosure form;
  • Abbreviated Curriculum Vitae including competencies and qualifications (max. 2 pages)
  • Expression of Interest document of up to 500 words in support of their application addressing the selection criteria.
  • Commitment to Greenpeace values
  • Directors must not be disqualified from managing a corporation under the Corporations Act and must not be currently disqualified from being a board member by the ACNC Commissioner;
  • Candidates must formally accept of the objectives of the Greenpeace Trust and agreement to be bound by its constitution;
  • Board applications to be received by the 10th April 2017 in order to be assessed by the Nominations Committee.  
  • Other criteria as specified in Articles 16 and 48 the Greenpeace Australia Pacific Limited Constitution;
  • Payment of membership fee before due date.

Greenpeace overview

Greenpeace is an independent campaigning organisation that uses non-violent direct action to expose global environmental problems and to force solutions which are essential to a green and peaceful future. Greenpeace's goal is to ensure the ability of the earth to nurture life in all its diversity.

Our core values

Independence:

  • We do not accept money from governments, corporations or political parties because it would compromise our core values.

Bearing witness:

  • Our peaceful protests work to raise awareness and bring public opinion to bear on decision-makers.

Non-violent direct action:

  • We strongly believe that violence in any form is morally wrong and accomplishes nothing. Greenpeace takes non-violent direct action at the point of an environmental crime to expose an environmental problem.

8 director positions.  3 positions become vacant at the 2017 AGM

Key responsibilities - Board

The Board of Directors of Greenpeace Australia Pacific consists of independent non-executive directors. The Board ensures the organisation obtains and appropriately uses the resources required to carry out its objectives and sustain it.

Other responsibilities of the Board are to:

  • Approve the annual budget of the organisation
  • Approved the audited accounts
  • Appoint and supervise the Chief Executive Officer
  • Monitor the operations and activities of Greenpeace Australia Pacific
  • Approve organisation policy
  • Approve the commencement of new campaigns.

Meetings per year:

6 per year, plus attendance at the AGM
