Shell abandons 2013 Arctic drilling!

Great news: oil giant Shell has announced that it is giving up on its plans to drill for oil in the Alaskan Arctic in 2013.

That means no drilling in the pristine waters of the Chukchi and Beaufort seas for the rest of this year.

It’s amazing news. Not just for the Arctic, but for the planet. And the hard work and persistence of our incredible global movement is what made it possible - whether you signed a petition, send an email, or shared news of Shell’s seemingly never-ending blunders in the Arctic Ocean.

The struggle isn’t over yet. We’ll be working in the days, weeks and months ahead to make sure that the good news doesn’t stop here by urging US President Obama to make the Arctic off limits to industrial exploitation, forever. You can help by signing our global petition here.
