Nuclear Safety Commission Protest in Tokyo

Where the Nuclear Safety Commission, charged with overseeing the stress tests of nuclear reactors, are conducting a public hearing. The face of Koji Okamoto, Professor of Tokyo University and Head of the Nuclear Safety Commission, appears on a 10,000 Yen bill made by Greenpeace. Highlighting the corruption scandal the Commission is currently embroiled in. Okamoto and other members of the Commission are accused of receiving money from companies with vested interests in nuclear plants, leading to questions of their independence. Greenpeace has called on the government to keep its nuclear plants closed and and move Japan towards a renewable future.01/18/2012
