A tiger tradegy

An endangered Sumatran tiger is trapped in an Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) related acacia plantation in the province of Riau. The tiger tragically died before it could be evacuated. The Sumatran tiger’s rainforest habitat is increasingly destroyed, forcing it into closer contact with humans and into areas where traps are laid for wild boar. More than one million hectares of rainforests are estimated to be cleared every year.

There are less than 400 remaining Sumatran tigers in the wild and that number is rapidly declining as their habitat continues to be destroyed to make cheap pulp and paper products. One of APP’s biggest customers in Australia is the popular supermarket chain, IGA. To make its Black & Gold and IGA Signature toilet paper, IGA uses APP products.
