The environmental and food safety of all genetically modified (GM) crops are highly questionable. GM crops with RNA interference (RNAi) constructs pose particular concerns.
CSIROs two GM wheat lines, DIR092 and DIR093 are genetically modified to use the phenomenon of RNAi to alter grain, and grain starch, composition. This type of genetic modification is complex, and the resulting GM plants highly prone to unexpected and unpredictable effects, but detailed studies of composition have not been performed.
