Email submissions to stop the destructive Terminal Zero at Abbot Point closed at 5pm on Wednesday 3 April 2013.
Over the last week an incredible 25,000 people have sent emails to Environment Minister Tony Burke and mining giant Adani expressing our concern at the damage this development could cause to local turtle populations and the Great Barrier Reef.
Together we’ve sent a clear message that Australians oppose the Terminal Zero development and want our beautiful Reef kept safe.
What’s next from here?
The federal government will read a summarise the submissions, then a recommendation report will be sent to Environment Minister Tony Burke for his approval.
Greenpeace has also put in a detailed submission pointing out flaws in the environmental assessment process.
If there are substantial points raised regarding further information needed, the Minister has the power to stop the clock and request further information from Adani. But if signs appear that the terminal will be approved, we’ll need to respond rapidly to make sure it’s stopped.
