Forests

Forests are the lungs of the earth. The air we breathe, the stability of our climate and the rich variety of life depends on forests. They’re home to around two-thirds of all plant and animal species found on land and millions of people depend on them for survival. Without healthy, thriving forests, planet Earth cannot sustain life. Yet our forests are being destroyed at an alarming rate.

Protecting forests

The price for this destruction is escalating climate change, biodiversity loss and community displacement. And it’s happening in our region. Indonesia has lost 72% of its ancient forest, Papua New Guinea 60% and the Solomon Islands is predicted to lose all of them by 2014. Back in Australia, we are part of the problem. Find out more
