Australia has a growing radioactive waste problem. This dangerous waste includes:

High-level nuclear waste, which is radioactive for hundreds of thousands of years. No-one has found a solution for its disposal. For safety, it has to be isolated somewhere. The Australian government wants to hide it in the outback. But that just keeps the problem "out of sight, out of mind" and lets the nuclear industry make more radioactive waste.

Low-level waste is more short-lived than high level waste but is still polluting and dangerous. The Australian government also wants to bury short-lived wastes in outback. It's not the answer.

Spent nuclear fuel from Lucas Heights in Sydney is sent to France for reprocessing. The Australian government wants to be seen as doing something about our nuclear waste problem. But reprocessing is the worst possible option. It's dangerous, dirty and it costs Australians millions of dollars.
