Overfishing is wiping out the world's fish, with 76 percent of the world's fisheries in dire straits. But urgent action can turn the tide on unsustainable fishing.

Overfishing by commercial and illegal (pirate) fishing fleets is threatening to fish some of our favourite seafoods to extinction. Foreign fleets that have already emptied their own waters are draining our last remaining healthy tuna fishery in the world: The Pacific.

Right this minute, Greenpeace's ship, the Esperanza, is in the Pacific defending our oceans from unsustainable and pirate fishing. The ship is tracking and exposing destructive fishing practices that kill tonnes of sea life.

We’re insisting that the international fishing body rescue the world’s favourite fish by creating marine reserves, slashing the regional fishing effort by half, and banning the daily dodgy exchanges of fish between ships out at sea.
