Letter to a whaling captain

One of our youngest supporters, Martina, has a good idea and great New Year's Resolution for the captain of the Japanese whaling fleet - the Nisshin Maru.

She asks Mr Toyama to take his whaling ship back home, remove its harpoons and then return to the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary with tourists ready to whale watch. What a top idea!

Taking Back the Earth: 30 years of Greenpeace action.

A video history of Greenpeace in two and a half minutes. Thanks to VESTA, and thanks to the European Space Agency-ESA-for the provision of archive material.

Now is not the time to just sit back and whale watch

This Greenpeace TV commercial aired in Australia before the International Whaling Commission meeting on June 16, 2006. The video combines footage of tourists on a whale watching cruise with shots of a harpooned whale in the Southern Ocean.

Whalers ram Greenpeace ship

The Arctic Sunrise has been deliberately rammed and damaged by the Nisshin Maru, the factory ship of the Japanese whaling fleet. This video footage was taken from both our ships with Shane Rattenbury explaining what happened. In particular the second half of the footage, shot from the Esperanza, clearly shows events.

Defending the whales

In day two of our confrontation with the whalers, we used our inflatable boats and water fans to block the harpoons. You can read first hand accounts from the activists at the Ocean Defenders blog.

Hidden camera - illegal harpoon footage

Greenpeace has obtained hidden footage proving that illegal whaling harpoons are still able to be bought in South Korea, and that illegal whaling activities are still taking place.
