The speakers include:
- Activist Bobbi Hunter, who together with her late husband, Greenpeace co-founder Bob Hunter, was instrumental in the campaign that closed down the last whaling station in Australia in 1978 and inspired the birth of Greenpeace in this country
- Bunny McDiarmid, Greenpeace New Zealand CEO, who was involved in the Greenpeace campaign against French nuclear testing in the Pacific, at the time of the 1985 bombing of the Rainbow Warrior
- Brett Solomon, executive director of GetUp!, whose online campaign played a significant role in turning community attitudes against the Government’s treatment of David Hicks
- Renowned chef Tony Bilson of Bilson’s Restaurant, who will speak on a panel about genetically engineered food.
The panel discussions are part of the retrospective exhibition, ‘30 Years of Inspiring Action’ showing at CarriageWorks from 15-30 September, and will be held at the following times (entry by donation):
Saturday 15 September, 12-2pm: Whale Tales: Stories from the 1970s Albany whaling campaign (speakers include activists Bobbi Hunter, Pat Farrington, Jonny Lewis, Tom Barber)
Saturday 15 September, 2.30-4.30pm: Activism in a democracy – why it’s important (speakers include Greenpeace NZ CEO Bunny McDiarmid and Brett Solomon of GetUp!)
Saturday 22 September, 12-2pm: Grains of Truth: GE food crop bans (speakers include chef Tony Bilson of Bilson’s Restaurant, Dr Judy Carman, spokesperson on GE foods for the Public Health Association of Australia).

The exhibition documents the successes of Greenpeace Australia Pacific over the years, including the early whaling protests that saw Australia’s last whaling station close down, the campaign against French nuclear testing in the Pacific and the shutdown of the greenhouse-polluting Stuart Shale Oil Project in Queensland.
30 Years of Inspiring Action will feature 87 powerful images, breathtaking footage of campaign confrontations and iconic Greenpeace memorabilia from past Greenpeace actions.
