Australia — The Greenpeace flagship, Rainbow Warrior, sailed into Port Melbourne this morning after three days of trying to prevent a ship, Rhein, from delivering 6300 tonnes of unlabelled genetically engineered (GE) soy.

Rainbow Warrior captain Derek Nichols, who was arrested in an earlier attempt to stop the Rhein, said that he hoped Greenpeace's presence would make a difference by creating a cleaner, safer environment for the future.

Melbourne restauranteur Dur-e Dara and the Wurandjeri people welcomed the Rainbow Warrior and its crew as the ship berthed.

"My customers want to know what they're eating. I have to face them every day, unlike politicians and multinationals; I can't hide in an office. So I want a GE-free world and I want a GE-free restaurant," said Dur-e Dara.

"I am very excited to welcome the Rainbow Warrior to Melbourne - you represent the symbol for us to keep strong about what we believe, and we won't be duped anymore."

Greenpeace will be holding Rainbow Warrior open days in Melbourne this weekend before heading to New Zealand.
