Bird of paradise singing

Hear the remarkable song of the bird of paradise.

This audio was recorded by Sep Galeva, a landowner from Lake Murray, PNG. These colourful birds are called panda (pronounced pun-da) in the local Kuni language. They gather to sing and dance in the morning and evening. Sep’s people, the Kuni, use bird of paradise feathers in their headdresses. Says Sep, "It is used for the ranking of chiefs. You can’t be a chief without this bird."

Our ocean, our future, our choice

Greenpeace has launched a remix of the Pacific group Te Vaka’s song "Our ocean, our future, our choice".

The song is a passionate call from Pacific Islanders to regional leaders and the world’s fishing industry to ensure the Pacific tuna fishery survives large-scale commercial fishing.

Although based in New Zealand, Te Vaka is one of Polynesia’s most successful bands. In 2004, the band wrote the song for Greenpeace and it now features on their latest album, "Olatia".
