The existing UK nuclear facilities will leave us a legacy of half a million tonnes of nuclear waste – and some of this will remain as a threat to human health and the environment for hundreds of thousands of years.
There is no final disposal option for the more radioactive intermediate and high level wastes or spent fuel in the UK.
