Ten years ago Greenpeace activists scaled the walls of the Prime Minister’s house at Kirribilli in Sydney to place solar panels on his roof. This cheeky action sent a clear message to John Howard, urging him to act on climate change.

A couple of months later, the Australian government signed up to the Kyoto Protocol – hailing it a success and bragging that they got a ‘sweetheart deal’.

Although our message was clear in 1997, five years later Mr Howard withdrew from the protocol and today, in 2007, he is still yet to take real action on climate change.
